MARINE SAFETY INFORMATION BULLETIN

[MSIB # 17-09]

August 27, 2009

NOTICE OF PREPARATIONS FOR TROPICAL STORM DANNY

The Captain of the Port (COTP) Delaware Bay is notifying mariners
that projections indicate the potential for tropical storm DANNY to pass
near (or impact) the New Jersey and Delaware shorelines in the next 72
hours. The possibility exists for high winds, severe thunderstorms, and
increased seas and surf in this area. All vessels, facilities, and
marinas are asked to take adequate precautions and incorporate the Port
Hurricane Contingency Plan in their individual Heavy Weather Plans. An
updated Port Hurricane Contingency Plan can be found on Homeport at :
http://homeport.uscg.mil/delawarebay under Local Contingency Plans then
click on COTP Sector Delaware Bay Port Hurricane Contingency Plan. All
vessels, facilities, and marinas are urged to monitor tropical storm
DANNY and track the movement of the storm to prepare for any possible
impact. There are currently no restrictions in the Captain of the Port
Sector Delaware Bay area of responsibility.

The COTP will broadcast notification in the event any limitations or
restrictions are imposed in the COTP Sector Delaware Bay area of
responsibility. This notification will be broadcast using VHF-FM radio,
faxed to the Maritime Exchange, posted on Homeport and will be available
upon request. The U.S. Coast Guard will provide the best possible
advance notification before changing port operational status. Ship’s
agents shall ensure their ships are provided a copy of the Port Hurricane
Contingency Plan.

If there are any questions regarding the contents of this bulletin
or expectations of the Captain of the Port, please contact (215) 271-4807.

Meredith L. Austin
Captain, U.S. Coast Guard
Commander, Sector Delaware Bay
