SEASONAL ICE ALERT

The Captain of the Port, Delaware Bay has set a Seasonal Ice Alert for navigation on the Delaware River, Delaware Bay, Chesapeake Canal, Delaware Canal, all existing tributaries, and the New Jersey and Delaware Shores. Mariners observing any ice conditions are asked to report them using the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Ice Reporting Form located on the unit’s website. The address is:

Mariners can also report conditions to the CG Sector Delaware Bay Command Center on VHF Channel 16 or call (215) 271-4807.

The Maritime Exchange is forwarding the following from the Mariners' Advisory Committee for the Bay and River Delaware for your information.

Navigation Notices: Delaware City (Bulkhead Shoal) Channel maintenance dredging (per Norfolk Dredging): The Dredge Essex should arrive at Delaware City Channel on or about Thursday, DEC 6th and begin pipeline laying operations thereafter. We will be dredging in their entrance channel from Stations 67+00 to 95+00 (which is just south of the entrance to Delaware City Marina) and also at Pier 3, which is the northernmost pier at the refinery. As usual, we will be standing by on VHF 13 and 16. Feel free to call if you have any questions.

Navigation Notices: Due to soundings for the Upper Delaware that were recently published by the the USACE, the MAC Transit Advisories will be amended to read as follows until further notice:

Upper Delaware River/Vessel Draft Inbound

1. Vessels less than 32`06" FW may transit on any stage of the tide or current.

2. Vessels 32`06" FW or greater up to 38`06" FW in draft should arrive in Philadelphia Harbor no later than 8 hours and 15 minutes, or earlier than 5 hours and 45 minutes from slack flood current at Cape Henlopen.

3. Vessels 32`06" FW or greater up to 38`06" FW in draft shall avoid meeting outbound shipping traffic above the Delair Railroad Bridge.

Synopsis<span-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif;color:#333333;mso-fareast-language:EN-US">: A weak clipper system will track north and east of our region today. High pressure will build in from the west Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by stronger high pressure system from the north Wednesday night and Thursday before shifting offshore later Thursday night. A strong storm system will move from the central Plains Thursday night to the Canadian Maritimes Saturday, bringing a cold front through the eastern U.S. Friday night. High pressure then builds toward our area late Saturday into Sunday.
